Amateur Mars Scientists Moving on to Ithaca

Planet Four, a Zooniverse space crowdsourcing project, asks amateur planetary scientists to review over 98,000 images of the red planet for seasonal features called fans that form as carbon dioxide ice sublimates during the Martian Spring. They’ve completely analyzed the Inca City and Manhattan regions of the Martian South Pole and have moved on to look at a region the project’s dubbed “Ithaca”.

Meanwhile the science team produced a poster presentation (PDF) for next month's 8th International Conference on Mars. (No, the conference isn't on Mars, it's about Mars.) The presentation will introduce the project to other planetary scientists. Another paper will appear later this year documenting their early results.
