Kickstarted Weather Sensors Want to Crowdsource Weather Maps

Top-of-the-line smartphones contain many sensors that let you measure the environment. But that doesn’t do any good if you keep the phone in your pocket. Now 2 Kickstarter projects are developing bluetooth environment trackers that will work with any phone. CliMate and StormTag use the latest generation of micro sensors to collect atmospheric data that your smartphone’s app collects and uploads to the cloud. The crowdsourced data will produce weather maps with much finer resolution than any professional weather map. StormTag will work with the WeatherSignal service which already crowdsources smartphone weather data. (Via TechCrunch)
